Bog Oak

Having just been gifted a fairly large quantity of bog oak that had apparently been in the ground for at least 2000 years I was quite keen to take a saw to it!

The backstory of this wood, it’s from Fenland, it’s very old, it’s very black and my god is it hard. The bandsaw was not happy and at some points, I didn’t think it was going to cope, however, after lots of blade adjustments I finally managed to get some workable blanks from the first piece, old oak has a habit of hiding cracks, splits and fissures and this was no exception so after centre drilling the blanks they went for a stabilisation trip in the pressure pot.

Not sure what to expect when I come to turn these down to size but the one thing I do know is the antique gold hardware I have will match beautifully.
