DUST

Dust is the enemy of the perfect wrap finish, you've done the hard work with perfectly matched wraps that are tightly packed and burnished, your epoxy is bubble free, sharp edges impeccably level and has melded with the thread to become one.
You walk away from the turner slowly rotating at 6rpm only to come back a few hours later to see specs of dust, a cat hair and a minute black fly that must have come from the house plants firmly embedded in a few of the wraps. You could SCREAM, but just mutter a few expletives under your breath! So what can you do to eliminate the conundrum of air borne particles and other annoying objects floating or flying about?
A clean workspace is the first place to start, a little desk vacuum cleaner can be picked up for not much money from Amazon or Ebay and will suck up all the particles, both big and small from the immediate area, an air purifier will suck up the airborne micro dust and needs to be run for a good few hours before adding wrap finish. Finally something to cover your rod sections as they dry. I started using the CRB Rod Drying Tent many years ago and still use it to this day. The CRB tent is easily picked up and placed over your build and with both side and top clear panels you can keep an eye on what's going on.
The tent comes as two parts with each being about 55" long, more than enough to cover a fly rod section, so you could purchase the Tent between two rod builders and each have one of the sections. For more info or to buy the CRB Rod Drying Tent Click Here

As for the flies, keep your house plants healthy and nematodes are a great way to keep the flies at bay.
