FRC M-Line Series - Medium Actioned Traditional Blanks

Fortitude Rod Co M-Line Series

The new FRC M-Line series came about from conversations with anglers looking for a more traditional actioned fly rod for dries and nymphs on streams and rivers, something that has been missing from most manufactures!

The M-Line defines what a modern medium-action fly rod blank should be, slim and light with a through action for a relaxed casting stroke and a sensitive tip to protect fine tippets.

Available in a 7'6 3wt and 8'6 4wt

Four section blanks supplied with a rod bag, guide spacing info and decal

Having gained access to some new water comprising a variety of smaller streams, many with overhanging trees, I decided to acquire a 7 1/2 ft 3wt rod to allow me to fish them more easily, rather than using my usual 8 1/2 to 10 foot 4 or 5 wts. I tried several options including the Sage Dart, but none that I could afford appealed to me. I visited Fortitude Rod Co. at BFFI and after a most helpful conversation with the owner, Jason, ordered a 7 1/2 ft 3wt M-Line blank and the necessary components to build what I thought would be a suitable rod. The M-Line blank was billed as "medium action", but, when I received it, I was surprised by the swift tip recovery. It felt rather faster than I had expected. Having taken my time to build the rod, I have yet to try it on the water, due to the close season. However, in "grass casting" using a Cortland Sylk DT line, I have found it a delight. It feels remarkably crisp and places the fly with great accuracy. However, the blank seems to be flexible enough to protect the fine tippets I expect to use routinely (down to 7x) with small flies (18 - 24). Not only was the blank of the highest quality, but at a reasonable price, the grip, reel seat and guides that Jason supplied were of a similar high standard. I was impressed. I look forward to taking the finished rod out for the first time on the river.
