The TNH 105 blank combines a sensitive tip with plenty of feel and feedback with a tippier action and strong butt and mid-section, a lively rod with real zip. Rated #5 by the manufacturer this is a flexible fly rod blank well-suited to a range of applications including stillwater and loch angling, topwater and dry fly in particular, and all round large river use with added mending reach and casting range, especially if wading deeper. The blank is similar in character and performance to the TNH 1003 and TNH1004, with added power for larger nymphs and dries, multiifly rigs, and smaller to medium suze lures. Same great TNH series action and performance.

Taniwha Nano-helix blanks are carefully constructed fast and sensitive hi-modulus carbon fibre fly rod tapers from a designer whose early career included designing high performance fly rods for a well regarded New Zealand brand before establishing his own advanced composites manufacturing facility based in China. These blanks offer premium quality fit, finish and performance at a surprisingly reasonable price. Taniwha Rodworks exclusive. The TNH series incorporates high-modulus, uni-directional carbon fibre pre-pregs wrapped on a helical carbon fibre scrim with the latest nano resin adhesives for optimum strength to weight performance, hoop strength and blank recovery speed. The result is a light, slim, strong and sensitive blank with fine tips, plenty of feel and fast tip recovery. Most of the flex is in the top third of the blank (mid-tip to tip flex action depending on the model) and they are a delight to cast and fish with good power reserves for taming larger catches and carrying longer casts.

I built one of these TNH 10' #5 late in the season last year, and I may have rushed the build as I wasn't particularly happy with the build, I'd splashed out for some of Jason's superb components for this build but I think I got a bit cocky and didn't give the build the usual level of care as I just wanted it finished. The rod performed exceptionally well but I just wasn't happy with it. When I say it performed well I have an unusual example, I hooked a quality overwintered fish of 4.5 to 5lbs at about 25 to 30 feet from the boat on a barbless cast of buzzers, on 6lb fluoro, due to a slight hiccup on this cast My reel jammed and I couldn't give the fish more than a few inches of line
