Model description

The TNHX 9'6" #2 is a faster action light line fly rod blank suitable for dry and light to medium nymphing. Ideal in challenging situations requiring a delicate and techical approach. It combines a fine and sensitive tip with plenty of feel and feedback with a lively, tippy action and a stiffer medium power butt and mid-section. Perfect chalk stream dry fly rod, 

Ample fighting power for typical European river trout and grayling on fine tippets, but not suitable for bullying grossly oversized stocked fish - choose the right tool for the job!

Very accurate at short range casting off the tip, and capable of longer casts drawing on the power of the blank. Rated #2 by the manufacturer it can also cast a true AFFTA #3 line if more casting feedback is preferred.  . 

Also available with a short 5th section to extend the blank to 10'6" for Euro style nymphing.  Please note that the extension must be purchased with the blank to ensure correct fit, it cannot be purchased separately or added later.  It fits between the butt and third sections.  For flexibility in use we suggest not putting a guide on the extension section, so it can be added or removed without re-stringing your rod.

We also sell a TNHX 10'6" #2/3 specialist 4-piece nymphing rod, a similar taper with a little more butt power.  Choose this model if you will mostly be nymphing, chose the TNHX 962 if outstanding dry fly performance is a higher priority, but good nymphing or flexibility with one rod is also important to you.

Nano-helix TNH X-weave

Taniwha Nano-helix blanks are carefully constructed fast and sensitive hi-modulus carbon fibre fly rod tapers from a designer whose early career included designing high performance fly rods for a well regarded New Zealand brand before establishing his own advanced composites manufacturing facility based in China. These blanks offer premium quality fit, finish and performance at a surprisingly reasonable price. Taniwha Rodworks exclusive.

The TNH series incorporates high-modulus (46 ton/IM12), uni-directional carbon fibre pre-pregs wrapped on a helical carbon fibre scrim with the latest nano resin adhesives for optimum strength to weight performance, hoop strength and blank recovery speed. The result is a light, slim, strong and sensitive blank with fine tips, plenty of feel and fast tip recovery. Most of the flex is in the top third of the blank (mid-tip to tip flex action depending on the model) and they are a delight to cast and fish with good power reserves for taming larger catches and carrying longer casts.

As a refinement to the TNH blank range, the TNHX models add two fine reinforcing strips of Toray carbon fibre wrapped under tension in a cross-weave ‘X’ pattern before curing.  These serve to further compress and strengthen the blank, enhancing its performance, durability and impact resistance.
