Model description The TNHX 10ft #7 version is a longer length all-rounder with a sensitive and fast recovering tip section and a powerful tip flexing action with added butt power to carry and cast a long line and handle bigger fish. The is blank is accurate and most suitable for larger rivers and still waters including fishing with large dries, duo rigs, heavier nymphs, lures and streamers.
Nano-helix TNH X-weave
Taniwha Nano-helix blanks are carefully constructed fast and sensitive hi-modulus carbon fibre fly rod tapers from a designer whose early career included designing high performance fly rods for a well regarded New Zealand brand before establishing his own advanced composites manufacturing facility based in China. These blanks offer premium quality fit, finish and performance at a surprisingly reasonable price. Taniwha Rodworks exclusive.
The TNH series incorporates high-modulus, uni-directional carbon fibre pre-pregs wrapped on a helical carbon fibre scrim with the latest nano resin adhesives for optimum strength to weight performance, hoop strength and blank recovery speed. The result is a light, slim, strong and sensitive blank with fine tips, plenty of feel and fast tip recovery. Most of the flex is in the top third of the blank (mid-tip to tip flex action depending on the model) and they are a delight to cast and fish with good power reserves for taming larger catches and carrying longer casts.
As a refinement to the TNH blank range, the TNHX models add two fine reinforcing strips of Toray carbon fibre wrapped under tension in a cross-weave ‘X’ pattern before curing. These serve to further compress and strengthen the blank, enhancing its performance, durability and impact resistance.
Blank colour: matt raw carbon, crossweave reinforced.

Just finished this build, and very pleased with the blank and fittings. The REC guides seem very light. I have some on an Orvis rod so have been looking to build with them myself. Also the cork handle is of excellent quality. I ended up going up a size with the rings as I wanted a bit of a distance casting rod. I was a bit concerned that more weight in the tip would soften it up a bit. I needn't have worried. I also decided to put the first stripper guide on the butt section rather than incorporate it into the ferrule whipping on the next section. My 10' Helios has this configuration and I prefer it to having it on the next section.
I have attached a pic of the finished rod. I wanted to build a fairly low key looking rod without too much flash colour so went for black thread in the end with a small amount of metallic silver tipping.
I took the rod out today on a local reservoir (Siblyback) and managed to christen it on my third cast which is a good result there this time of the year.
It's quite a beast of a rod which is what I was after. I have three other 7 wt rods including an Orvis Helios 2 10' 7 wt and the Tanihwa performs at least as well as the helios. The Tanihwa a different rod, with slightly more power in the middle and quite tippy. It absolutely blasts out a line. I tried three different lines on it today, all airflo, a superflo expert floater, an expert slow intermediate and a 3' sink tip and all went out like rockets. It was easy to form tight loops if thats what I wanted. It also performed well at close range as the tip is so responsive and flicked out a short line nicely.
Playing fish was good too with the middle of the rod coming into play smoothly.
Overall, very pleased with the rod.
cheers

I recently purchase one of thse Blanks after searching for a suitable blank to build a fast action rod suitable for fishing on the bank of my local lake Rutland Water. As this is a large lake it is greatly affected by the weather and having the right rod for the job is paramount. I have have been building rods for many years and on making this one i have to say it fullfills my requrements exactly. It has the ability to easily cast a full line which on Rutland Water can make a big difference sometimes to making a good catch rate. I also like the unusual finish of the Blank and the finished rod appearance is very nice. I would also say that i found Jason extremly helpful in providing all of the suitable materials for the Rod Building.
